The only FDA approved treatment for hair loss is Rogain. I’ve seen varied results from treatment with it. I’ve seen it grow back just a little peach fuzz and I’ve seen it grow back full healthy hair follicles. The only way to find out if it can work for your son, is for him to try it for 2 months. He’ll know within that time frame whether or not it will work for him. It actually works better for someone who is just starting thin so it might be the answer for him. The only draw back is that he will be committed to using it forever if he wants it to keep working. There are lots of products that claim to grow back hair but most of the time, its just a waste of money. Hair thickening shampoos will help his hair look thicker because it expands each hair follicle making him appear to have more hair but will not grow back hair. Nioxin is also a good product but I’ve seen people use it for years with no real significant regrowth of lost hair follicles. I think its good for stopping the thinning process though.
Anyway, I know it can be devastating to lose hair especially when one is so young but I happen to LOVE bald men and I know that allot of women feel the same. Maybe a little acceptance and love will help your son feel more comfortable with his thinning hair.
