my cats losing hair on his neck?

yellowmonitor asked:

Hi, my cat has been losing hair on his neck for the last 3 weeks now. I’ve tried a flea collar for two weeks but it didn’t do anything, and I’ve tried an antiseptic germicidal spray (for skin infections) for a week, and it hasn’t shown signs of improvement yet. A vet trip is $50 in my area plus extra cost for treatment, so I want to try safe alternatives before resorting to that (I have an appointment scheduled in two weeks, please dont just tell me to go to the vet). Do you recommend me trying anything else? I saw an anti-itch cream at Petsmart but Im not sure if it will cure the problem or just postpone it.

He is an indoor and the only cat, so I dont know how he can get fleas in the first place. I feed him half a can of Friskies (mixed grill, salmon, turkey) and fill the rest of his appetite with Science Diet.

I noticed that if I pinch a bit of his hair and give a slight tug, the hair readily comes off. This might sound stupid, but is this normal or a is it nutrition problem? Might that have something to do with his hair loss? Are cats hair less rooted than human hair?

I recently discovered a large balad patch, about an inch accross, on the base of my scalp. Most of it it starting to grow back, but very slowly & like stubble, there’s still a small section not growing back. I’ve booked an appointment at the doctors as I believe its due to stress/depression.Or possible thryoid problems (I have a family history of it)
Basically I’m asking for ANY advice about what I can do to help it grow back, what treatments I should use,any supplements etc

Also I’ve bleached my hair since I was 14 (I’m now 19)&I was contemplating whether I should go back to my natural hair colour, as I don’t want to weaken my hair futher. However after being blonde for so many years,it would be a big change for me,so I would prefer to still have it dyed slightly lighter than it is naturally (professionally) but I wonder if any dye will damage my hair?
Its very embarassing&I have to wear my hair up for work, so any help anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I have an appointment for a hair relaxer treatment. And the consultant at the salon said it was mild and it would not cause damage to my hair. Is it safe? I already have some hair loss. So I am worried.

Hair loss/thinning before and after Hypothyroidism treatment?

Chris R asked:

So I’m a 19 year old male with thinning hair, that tends to fall out easily. It started about 4 years ago and although it isn’t totally devastating it’s noticable, especially to me.I made an appointment with my doctor about 9 months ago and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I’ve been taking 25 MCG Levothyroxine (Synthroid) tablets daily since then. I’m not expecting full re-growth but I would say my hair situation is continuing to decline. However,I have noticed that a side-effect of Levothyroxine is “Dry-brittle hair that tends to fall out easily”. I was wondering if it was possible to replace one cause with another (symptom of hypothyroidism with the side-effect of the medicine) or could they working in conjunction to ruin my social life (ha)?

My scalp is moderately flaky but sometimes my hair gets greasy, it may be due in part to my hair washing habits (wash about 2-3 times a week), but I find it discouraging when I look at my hands covered in hair. It’s a lose-lose situation.
