falcoferret asked: To understand my concern, here is the history. I used to have fairly healthy hair; the most I did was dying it about every 4-months with salon-grade products (black, which I know can be harsh). I used color-treatment shampoos and tried to be gentle but still experienced hair breakage. Not a lot, but only washing my hair every 3-days helped (otherwise it got too dry).
I got a perm several months ago, and found my hair began breaking-off severely. Even running my fingers through it caused breakage, close to the scalp, so I had little patches of bristles sticking-up. I got my hair trimmed to relieve the weight (from shoulder to ear length) and to try and cut-out some of the perm. I’ve used a reconstructing conditioner, leave-in conditioner, etc. to try and halt the damage. Recently I’ve noticed I’m having almost as much hair coming-out at the roots as breakage. It’s not coming-out in patches; it seems evenly distributed, and it doesn’t look like I’m losing hair/going bald. But I am concerned. I still dye my hair; I have to I have so much gray, but I leave it in the proper time. I am only 27. I’ve looked-up reasons for hair loss/breakage and it seems the most likely reasons for me are stress, hair dying, hormones or possibly iron deficency.
I don’t think I can save/stop my current dyed/permed hair from breaking and pulling-out. I am considering cutting my hair close to the scalp and letting it grow again naturally, and not dye it. I do not want gray hair, but I also don’t want to damage my new hair with dying. I’ve tried store brands and salon brands. I want to look nice without hurting my hair, and I’m embarassed to cut all my hair off. Right now it seems like the only way to grow healthy hair again. Please, any suggestions?
